CORNWALL, Ontario – Five individuals have been displaced after two fires that took place on Saturday, March 9.
Two of the individuals were residents of an apartment in Vista Towers, according to Cornwall Fire Services Chief Pierre Voisine, the fire was contained to one room thanks to the efforts of Cornwall’s firefighters and no one else in the building needed to be evacuated.
On the same day, there was a house fire on Smith St., just off of Brookdale Ave. That fire closed Brookdale from Water St. to Second St. for most of Saturday evening.
Three individuals were displaced from the home, and Voisine stated that at least two family pets perished in the fire.
At least three fire crews were on-site during the blaze on Smith St.
Voisine told Seaway News that firefighters were still on scene until mid-to-late Sunday.
Voisine said that both fires are believed to be accidental and electrical in nature.
A GoFundMe page has been started to support the family of the Smith St. home.
