SOUTH GLENGARRY, Ontario – A new summer fundraising tournament took place at Charlottenburgh Park on Saturday, July 21.

The first ever Serving Kindness charity volleyball tournament was organized by Colton Gallant and a dedicated team of friends.

There were 12 teams participating in the tournament and the first ball was served at 9 a.m. Eight to 10 people were on each team and Gallant hoped to raise roughly $2,400.

“I have had a lot of people mention to me over the years that they wanted a volleyball tournament,” said Gallant. “Charlottenburgh Park has a beautiful beach and a great volleyball court.”

In addition to the volleyball there was also cornhole, a slackline and a DJ for teams to enjoy when they were not diving for the ball in the sand.

Gallant and his friends also organized the Kicks for a Cause soccer tournament in June and Gallant was also involved in the Hockey with Heart tournament that takes place in February.

Hockey with Heart supported Beyond 21 and the Julie MacLachlan Foundation this past year and raised around $5,000 and the $2,700 raised by Kicks for a Cause went to Beyond 21 as well.

The Serving Kindness volleyball tournament was organized in support of Beyond 21 and a local family that is experiencing financial hardship.

Of Beyond 21, Gallant says that it is a great organization that he has had positive experiences with in the past and one that he is happy to support.
