CORNWALL, Ontario – The Long Sault Arena welcomed hundreds of hockey lovers for the second annual Hockey Day in South Stormont event this Saturday, Oct. 28.

The event featured Cornwall’s homegrown NHL player, Jesse Winchester, playing alongside his brothers with the South Stormont Local Heroes. In addition to Winchester, Montreal Canadiens alumni, Yvon Lambert was also present at the event. Having won four consecutive Stanley Cups with the Habs, Lambert says he’s more than thankful to have played during that time.

“I was lucky in the 70s because we had such a great crew. Robinson, Savard, Lapointe, Dryden, Lafleur – it was a great time to play the game,” said Lambert.

Having played for the Canadiens between 1976-1979, Lambert says that he had a chance to meet with fans both old and young.

“It’s really nice to meet so many fans and feel appreciated,” said Lambert.

Hoping to host an alumni game next year, organizer, David Smith says the event is a stepping stone. This year, Smith says that he’s happy to see the love of the game spilling into the community.

“We’re hoping we can raise a few dollars for Hospice, and have fun while we’re at it,” said Smith.
