MORRISBURG, Ontario – This Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 25 and 26 18 youths from Cornwall and the United Counties who are a part of the Not so Amateur Amateurs, Cornwall Division will be performing an adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic Treasure Island at the Upper Canada Playhouse in Morrisburg.
“This adaptation is loosely based on the book… Emphasis on loosely,” said Brett Desrosiers, writer of the adaptation and the play’s Director. “We use our own creative comedy to spice things up with the portrayal of the characters. We have elderly pirates being played by 6-16 year olds, which make for very dramatic moments.”
Desrosiers has been working with her students to teach them how to develop their characters, as well as onstage movements and articulation. She hopes that this will be a positive experience for her students and that they enjoy the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.
“I hope the students get the experience of how it feels to perform in front of a live audience,” she said. “The adrenaline rush and nerves makes the experience worth it. I hope the audience enjoys the humour and characters and how the youth worked hard on their development.”
Two shows will be performed on Saturday, one at 2 p.m. and the other at 7 p.m. One show will be performed at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. For more information, contact Brett Desrosiers at miss.d@outlook.com or call 613-362-5321.
