CORNWALL, Ontario – The Vagina Monologues will be returning to Cornwall on Feb. 17

Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Best Western and starts with a dinner at 6:30 p.m. with the play starting at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $55 for the dinner and $25 for the show. Tickets are available at the Sexual Assault & Support Services (SASS) at 125 Amelia St. or at Giroux Sewing and Echo Trends.

The Vagina Monologues is an episodic play by Eve Ensler which first premiered 22 years ago.

The play deals with issues surrounding sexuality, body image, rape and more through the eyes of women of different ages and racial backgrounds.

The performance in Cornwall on Feb. 17 will also include men for the first time in the history of the play’s run in Cornwall.

“There is a lot of sensitivity to what the material is and awareness around it,” said Brett Desrosiers, this year’s Director for the Vagina Monologues. “It is not about having pity, but about listening to what they have to say.”

This year’s rendition of the play is especially poignant given the rise of the #MeToo movement and #TimesUp from the past year.

“The play is going to enlighten you, especially men,” said Desrosiers. “There is a new reading over it, Redux. A response to the discussion happening now. Don’t get intimidated by the name of the play. It really is mind opening.”

The play is a part of the V-Day initiative, which is a global movement to end violence against women. Ninety percent of the proceeds from the play will go to SASS, the remaining 10 percent will go to support a V-Day cause.
