CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall Fire Services Chief Pierre Voisine is reminding residents to check their smoke detectors after an early morning fire on Montreal Rd.
Voisine said that he was notified of the emergency at 802 Montreal Rd. at around 4:25 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
The chief said that when his firefighters got on scene that the rear of the six apartment building was fully engaged.
He said that while there were no deaths that resulted from the fire, two were sent to hospital with injuries, although he could not disclose the nature of those injuries.
“Some apartments were missing smoke alarms or the smoke alarms weren’t working. I can say that this had an impact on the injuries,” Voisine told Seaway News.
Voisine said that there were 12 firefighters initially on-scene with another nine called in.
Cornwall Firefighters did an absolutely fantastic job early this morning battling a fire in a chaotic situation. Kudos to @cwlpolice and Conrwall SDG Paramedic services for the assistance. #trainedequippedprepared
