Junior Optimist Club Hosts First JOI Landmark Challenge in September

If you’re a fan of The Amazing Race, you’re going to want to sign up for the Junior Optimist Club’s JOI Landmark Challenge taking place in Cornwall on September 10, 2022.

Compete against other teams in a race around Cornwall to get to different landmarks and answer trivia questions to earn points.

“We started out as it being a scavenger hunt but then after we found all our locations that we wanted to use we realized it was more about landmarks,” said Austin Nelson, chair of the event.

The JOI Landmark Challenge will include about 20 locations starting with the Cornwall Police Service building beside City Hall. The organizers have chosen a variety of landmarks, some more known than others.

Registration will be from 10:30 to 11:30 am, with a barbeque between 10:30 and 1. Up to 30 teams of 2-4 players can register. The cost is $5 per team and while the event is geared towards families and teens, anyone can participate. The challenge starts at 1pm and runs until 4pm.

All teams will receive an envelope with the first clue leading to the next location. When they get to that location, they will be given an envelope with a question inside. If they answer correctly, they can take on a bonus question for more points before getting an envelope with a clue to the next location… and so on.

Junior Optimist Club members are encouraged to promote positive change in their communities one project at a time. If this event is successful, the club would like to host it as an annual event.
