Cornwall man allegedly takes officer’s taser

CORNWALL, Ontario – Michael McEwan, 44, of Cornwall was arrested on Dec. 27, 2018 and charged with the following:

  • Disarming a police officer
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Mischief
  • Breach of probation for failing to keep the peace

It is alleged on Dec. 27, 2018 while in the area of Adolphus St. and Water St. a member of the Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) spotted a man known to be wanted for mischief and breach of probation. While attempting to arrested the man a struggle ensued and the man gained control of the officer’s Conductive Energy Weapon (taser) and deployed it. It is also alleged during the struggle the officer was bit by the man on several occasions. With the assistance of other officers the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.
