SOUTH STORMONT, Ontario – The Cornwall Township Lions Club and Fence Depot will be hosting the 24th annual Spit Party and Hunter’s Ball on Saturday, Nov. 24 between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

“It’s quite a good night,” said Glenn Booth, President of the Cornwall Township Lions Club and Big Buck committee member.

Booth explained that the evening is expected to draw over 500 guests and is the biggest of its kind in the area. It will be held at the Cornwall Township Lions Club in Bonville. All hunters who paid an initial $25 for registration are eligible to attend for no extra charge, while non-registered attendees will be charged $10 at the door.

Between November 5 and 18, registered hunters had the opportunity to bring their game to Fence Depot where it could be weighed and categorized for the Big Buck contest. Awards for heaviest buck, heaviest doe, lucky buck and unlucky coyote will be distributed during the event.

Up to $10,000 in prizes will be distributed during the event. Additional chances to win include a frozen t-shirt contest, with a prize of $550 worth of Rona tools, and a Krazy Dan’s pickled wiener eating competition, which will include a sauce made especially for the event. Raffle games will also offer prizes, including a hunting tree stand, a $1600 generator, $1700 towards Cornwall Tires, and a high-end rifle.

Booth explained that the new coyote prize, sponsored by Kioti, includes three cash prizes of $100. The prize was developed with intentions of controlling the coyote population in the area. Booth also explained that most of the game is repurposed following the competition.

“Most of what’s entered into the contest is eaten,” he said. “Hunter’s Ball is a wild game dinner. As far as I know, nothing goes to waste.”

Food featured during the event will consist of wild game options. Every $5 of entrance cost is donated to the Cornwall Township Lions Club to support local initiatives. Additional funding is distributed towards prizes and event expenses.

Booth is thankful for all the generous event sponsors who make the annual event possible.
