CORNWALL, Ontario – For those looking for a new career, there was plenty to choose from at the fourth annual Cornwall and Area Job Fair.

There were 40 different employers, and 17 service providers offering around 400 jobs and there were many local residents at the show eager to apply for them.

The job fair opened at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, but according to Social Development Council (SDC) Executive Director and event organizer Carilyne Hébert people were lined up since 9 a.m.

“The Employability Network of the SDC is a big part of putting this event together,” said Hébert. She explained that the network meets monthly to address issues surrounding employment in Cornwall and the surrounding area.

This year’s job fair had nearly twice as many employers attend as previous years. Hébert said that probably nearly 400 people had gone through the job fair by the end of the morning and hoped to see at least 1,000 by the end of the day.

Some of the employers present at the fair included the Canadian Coast Guard, Sigma Point, who are looking to fill 10 jobs in Cornwall, Walmart Logistics who are looking to fill 150 warehouse and leadership positions in Cornwall and Leclerc.

Leclerc, a cooking company who recently announced that they are brining a new production facility to Cornwall, were by far the busiest booth on Wednesday morning, with three lines from their table, to the back of the room.
