CORNWALL, Ontario – The Benson Centre attracted hundreds of hockey players and families on Saturday, Oct. 6 during Seaway Day.

The 30th anniversary of the Seaway Valley Rapids saw six of eight Rapids teams play.

At around 1 p.m., President Mark Desnoyers was recognized on centre ice for his 30 years of contribution to the association. Chancey Novosad and Logan Villeneuve presented him with some Rapids merchandise. A shout out was also given to all event sponsors.

“I feel surprised; (this was) unexpected,” said Desnoyers. “I don’t do it for this (recognition) but it feels nice to be appreciated”

Desnoyers has been a part of the Rapids since the association’s inception. He coached minor hockey in the past and is a Convener with the Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO) League.

“It’s great. I love hockey; love being with the kids. It’s my passion,” he said.

Carrie Jodoin, committee member of the Seaway Valley Rapids, said that hockey is a major part of her family, as it is for many other locals.

“It keeps us very busy for sure. We’re at practice or a game at least four to five times a week,” said Jodoin.
