CORNWALL, Ontario – As part of its many community services, the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce today announced it will host a Municipal Election Candidates Forum. The Forum takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

The event begins at 5:00 p.m. with a public meet and greet with candidates for Council. The meet and greet will be followed by a Mayoral debate beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The event will take place at the Cornwall Civic Complex with the Mayoral debate televised, live on Your TV.

“Because of the number of candidates for Council, the event will have two components,” reports Todd Lihou, Chamber Director and Debate Chair. “Candidates for Council will be on hand at 5:00 to meet the public, followed by interviews on Your TV for broadcast at various times leading up to election day.”

“The Mayoral debate will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Complex salons,” continued Lihou. “Each of the candidates will give an opening statement followed by a series of topical questions posed by a media panel. After each question, candidates will engage in a brief scrum.”

Once the series of questions have been posed to the four Mayoral candidates, the public in attendance will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Lihou summarized the guidelines for the debate. “In order to maintain fairness for all of the candidates, we ask that no political signs, buttons, apparel, etc. of any kind are in the hall. Anyone possessing such items will be asked to leave them outside the hall, and we look forward to the public’s cooperation.”
