CORNWALL, Ontario – All of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) local councils have accepted new deals brokered between their negotiators and management at the City of Cornwall.
Workers have been on strike since May 16, and last Friday CUPE announced that it had reached a tentative deal after on again, off again negotiations with the employer, the City of Cornwall.
“The four CUPE locals who have been on strike in Cornwall have each ratified their tentative agreements,” CUPE spokesperson Andrea Addario said in a statement to the medis on Monday. “Assuming City Council and the Library Board both ratify from management’s side today, people will return to work on Tuesday.”
Striking workers include paramedics, librarians, inside and outside workers.
Unionized employees have been without a contract since 2016, in the case of Cornwall Library workers, 2015.
Cornwall City Council will be voting on the agreement Monday night.
