CORNWALL, Ontario – Heart of the City (HOTC) Centretown Coordinator Todd Lihou says that he is in the process of submitting a police report after one of their historical plaques were vandalized overnight.

Located along the bike path, the Gleeson’s Lock plaque was kicked off of its stand some time over the past week. The damage was first brought to Lihou’s attention on Friday, Aug. 17.

“We’ve been very fortunate that residents and visitors to our city have, by and large, been respectful of the project we have put together. It’s unfortunate that in this instance it appears as though that isn’t the case,” Lihou told Seaway News.

“We have asked the city to remove the plaque for now so we can determine what it will take to make repairs. we’re hoping that if someone has information on what happened that they will come forward so we can get to the bottom of things,” Lihou continued.

He explained that HOTC will likely have to foot the bill for the repairs.

HOTC spearheads revitilization projects in Cornwall, mainly in the downtown and Le Village areas.

Since 2016, HOTC has been installing historical plaques throughout Cornwall, detailing Cornwall’s rich heritage.
