CORNWALL, Ontario – The City of Cornwall is holding its first ever Trash to Treasure Day this Sunday, Aug. 12.

The City is encouraging residents to bring their gently used, unwanted household items to the curb on Sunday to give treasure hunters the chance to find a gem.

To avoid any confusion, residents can place signs next to their unwanted items to let people know that there is treasure there for the taking.

“Trash to Treasure Day is all about reducing the waste we send to the landfill,” said Danielle Watson, Waste Management Supervisor. “Often, we throw away items that would be useful to someone else. Someone’s trash is always someone else’s treasure!”

Watson stressed that this is not a yard sale and asked that residents who have items they want to sell to not put those items out on Trash to Treasure Day.

Also, no hazardous waste or mattresses should be put out on this day, and to avoid getting a ticket, all leftover items should be brought in by 7 p.m. Sunday.

“This event is the first of its kind in Cornwall,” said Watson. “We hope to see lots of residents participating in this valuable program.”
