GLEN WALTER, Ontario -A sod-turning ceremony was held at the site of the new fire hall for Glen Walter.

The event officially launches construction of the building that will be located near the intersection of Bray Street and Street ‘A’, with direct road access to County Road 2.

“The site of the new fire hall is ideally located to best serve the residents of Glen Walter and the surrounding area,” said Mayor Ian McLeod. “Council is looking forward to seeing this project move another step closer to completion.”

The contract for the construction of the new fire hall was awarded to Grant Marion Construction at a council meeting held last month.

Construction will begin immediately and is expected to be completed by December.

“The relocation and construction of a new fire hall is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling projects in a firefighter’s career,” said Fire Chief Vic Leroux. “A new fire hall will not only address the community’s current fire service needs, but also our future needs for the next 50-plus years.

“The firefighters of the station in Glen Walter are definitely looking forward to the day when they will be able to serve their community from the new fire station.”
