Prized pooches bow-wow the crowd at Farran Park

CORNWALL, Ontario – Emily Burdon and her six-year-old German Shepherd, Harry, are leading the pack at the Cornwall District Kennel Club annual dog show.

From Friday to Sunday, hundreds of pooches compete in categories like agility and obedience at Farran Park.

Burdon and Harry won ‘best in herding group’ three times against Shelties, cattle dogs, and Old English Sheepdogs, as well as ‘best in show’ twice.

“We’ll see what tomorrow brings,” said Burdon.

Gerry Desjardins, event chair and Cornwall District Kennel Club president, breeds and shows chihuahuas, but this weekend he’s focused on Ingleside’s annual competition for dog lovers and their canine companions.

“It’s our biggest event of the year,” said Desjardins.

The Summerstown resident encourages everyone to visit the park on Sunday for the last day’s activities.

“The weekend definitely brings awareness for the culture, but we do it so others have a dog show to go to,” he said.

Members of the Cornwall District Kennel Club, currently about 20 from the SDG area, meet monthly to plan the annual event and also compete at other dog shows.
