A 33-year-old cyclist sustained serious injuries as a result of colliding with a police vehicle on Friday, July 27. The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the incident.

Preliminary information suggests the cyclist was travelling eastbound on Second St. East at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the bike lane while an unmarked police vehicle was travelling in the same direction.

The police vehicle became involved in a collision with the cyclist when the vehicle turned right onto Millville Ave. said the SIU.

The cyclist was then taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Two investigators have been assigned to the incident.

The SIU is interested in speaking with the driver of a red Sedan that was stopped at the Second St. and McConnell Ave. traffic lights at the time of the collision.

The SIU is urging anyone else who may have witnessed the incident to call 1-800-787-8529.
