Firefighters were at the scene of an accident Wednesday on Boundary Road.

CORNWALL, Ontario – The winter wonderland that we enjoyed has turned into a watery nightmare.

A torrent of rain, some freezing and some not, has plagued the Cornwall area all day.

Numerous reports are coming in of flooded basements, and now Hydro One says as many as 5,000 people are powerless.

Crews have been dispatched to fix what are presumably downed power lines throughout SD and G.

A three-vehicle accident at the corner of Boundary Road and SCM Way brought firefighters and police out to the scene.

There were no injuries reported. Other accidents have been reported in the area.

Some 15 to 20 millimetres of rain has already fallen, with significant ice buildup on exposed structures becoming an issue to deal with.

The South Nation Conservation Authority said flooding in some low-lying areas may occur as a result of the warm temperatures and rain.

The agency advised that residents stay away from rivers and streams that could be dangerous.
