CORNWALL, Ontario – Two people had to be taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation following a Second Street East fire Monday night.
Cornwall firefighters were called to a burning building within the 1300 block of Second Street East at 7 p.m. to find a blaze rapidly progressing.
The Fire Services Department responded with five vehicles from both stations. A total of 14 fire personnel were at the scene.
Fire was contained to the west side unit of a two-storey duplex. Heavy smoke damage occurred in the adjoining unit. Two people were transported to CCH to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Nine residents were displaced as a result of the fire, which is still being investigated.
