McHappy Day returns to support families with sick children from Cornwall

This year marks over 30 years of celebrating McHappy Day, a special day where individuals, families and communities across Canada show their support for families with sick children through Ronald McDonald’s House Charities (RMHC) and other children’s charities. It’s a special day to rally our communities and raise funds in support of families with sick children nationwide.

On Wednesday, May 8, McDonald’s franchisees and Canadians coast-to-coast-to-coast, including right here in Cornwall will come together to support RMHC and local children’s charities through McHappy Day. This means all day a portion of proceeds from all McDonald’s menu items sold all day will be donated to RMHC – making a meaningful difference in the lives of families with sick children.

Families like the MacLennan’s, who spent 274 nights at RMHC Ottawa while their daughters Kaitlyn and Kassandra received lifesaving care. When their daughter Kaitlyn was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 14 and Kassandra with Systemic Scleroderma at age 8, the MacLennan parents weren’t sure how they would manage. As Cornwall locals, the MacLennan’s would’ve had to drive to Ottawa multiple times a week through snowstorms with a sick child in tow. The RMHC in Ottawa gave the family a place to rest and foster a sense of warmth and community within the house. A place where the MacLennan could feel like a family while navigating a difficult time in their children’s lives.
