CORNWALL, Ontario – Environment Canada has updated its Special Weather Statement for Cornwall to a Weather Warning.

So far, 25 to 35 mm of rain has fallen on the region.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue through to Monday night.

In some places the rain will be so heavy that flooding is possible.

“An intensifying low pressure system over Missouri will continue to provide several rounds of rain to southern portions of the province tonight and Monday,” the statement published by Environment Canada read Sunday night. “A few embedded heavier thunderstorms are also expected in some areas. Total general rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 millimetres are anticipated through Monday before it tapers off. But some areas which receive more persistent thunderstorms are likely to be impacted by 50 mm.”

According to The Weather Network, the heaviest downpour is expected to hit Cornwall sometime around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
