UPDATE: Woman pinned under vehicle in Brookdale Avenue crash has died

CORNWALL, Ontario – A pedestrian pinned underneath a vehicle following a collision on Brookdale Avenue today has died, said police.

Const. Dan Cloutier confirmed the news with this newspaper Friday evening.

Out of respect for the family we will not be releasing the name of the victim,” Cloutier added.

The accident took place just before noon on the city’s major artery when a car and a pickup truck crashed in the southbound lanes.

In a terrible case of being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time the the vehicles rocketed to the sidewalk, trapping the woman underneath one of them.

Cornwall police acting Sgt. Derek Duchesne told Seaway News the unidentified female pedestrian was in serious condition after being found.

She was rushed to the Cornwall Community Hospital. An investigator at the scene described her as a woman in her 50s.

The drivers escaped without injury.

Brookdale Avenue was closed between Ninth and Thirteenth streets for a time as police combed the scene.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
