EASTERN, Ontario – The O.P.P. are warning drivers to avoid some roadways today, Monday, Feb. 25.
“#OPP advises you to drive with extreme caution, particularly east of @ottawacity, as there are #WhiteOut conditions in many areas, Monitor @OPP_COMM_ER and local radio for road closures. Be prepared for loss of visibility,” reads a tweet from the OPP East account.
At time of writing, there is a closure on Hwy 138, just south of Hwy 417 due to the weather conditions.
There were closures on Hwy 417 after collisions earlier in the day which 511 Ontario attributed to the weather conditions.
“Flurries and strong westerly winds with gusts of 60 to 80 km/h are expected today. Any fresh snow will be whipped up by the winds creating areas of reduced visibilities, particularly in exposed areas. Snowfall accumulations are expected to be light,” reads a statement from Environment Canada for the region.
Environment Canada went on to state that conditions should improve as the day goes on.
