CORNWALL, 0ntario – A 32-year-old Cornwall man who wore a disguise to carry out a series of violent armed robberies now faces a total of 28 charges.
The Criminal Investigation Division of the Cornwall Community Police Service has linked John Pecore to six separate robberies on Dec. 16, 2014, Jan. 13, and Jan. 14.
Police said the man allegedly entered five local businesses wearing a disguise and demanded and took money from staff or the owners.
In one robbery, the suspect allegedly wielded a hammer. In another, he is accused of brandishing a steel pipe which he used to strike a man, causing minor injuries, who tried to intervene.
Local businesses and services that were targeted include a gas bar, clothing store, convenience store, hair salon, tanning salon, and a taxi cab.
On January 14, he was taken into custody by police during a traffic stop shortly after the he left the clothing store robbery.
The man has been charged with robbery, disguise with intent, robbery with a weapon, robbery with intent, assault with a weapon, and breaches.
Pecore was transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing on Jan. 16.
