CORNWALL, Ontario – Hundreds of people were lined outside the Civic Complex before Thursday’s Akwesasne-Cornwall job fair opened its doors at noon.

With white-knuckle grip, resume-ready jobseekers met with representatives from 40 of the region’s employers and community organizations.

Exhibitors included: The Miller Group, International Truckload Services, Cornwall Community Hospital, University of Ottawa, Kensington Park Recruitment, St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, Villeneuve Tank Lines, Avon Canada, Transport Training Centres of Canada Inc., and Akwesasne Mohawk Casino.

Morrisburg resident Brenda Moore, 53, is one of many out of work and looking for employment.

She visited the Drake International booth and spoke to client relationship manager Jason Jesmer.

“I’m hoping for at least a lead, or maybe a foot in the door since this agency works with multiple companies,” said Moore.

Jesmer noted there are positions currently available through Drake in warehousing and manufacturing.

The job fair ends at 6 p.m.
