CORNWALL, Ontario – The local chapter of the Alzheimer Society has a new fundraiser that is a delicious hit.

Soup’s On! was held at the Civic Complex on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

There were 12 different soups on the menu and the chefs included many local faces like Deputy Police Chief Danny Aikman, Fire Chief Pierre Voisine, some of the ladies of Glen Stor Dun Lodge, the Cornwall Nationals, Lahaie & Sullivan and more.

Soups ranged from chicken tortilla, to hearty potato bacon, to Italian Wedding to moose and blueberry and all were tasty.

Guests of the fundraiser could buy a cup of soup or a whole bowl with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer society.

There were also several judges who were on hand to select the most savory soup. One judge, MP Guy Lauzon, explained what he looked for in a good soup.

“I’m a big eater so I’m looking for some substance,” he said. “I just had a nice pepper soup with a little bit of a tang.”

The soups that won the judges favour were there RCMP’s M’m Mountie Veggie Soup for Best Vegetable Soup, Lahaie & Sullivan’s Italian Wedding Soup for best Hearty Soup and Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge’s Hearty Potato Soup for Best Creamy Soup.

Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge also brought home the People’s Choice trophy.

Josée Roy-Pilon, Campaign Coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Society said that the idea came from Perth County, where the Soups On fundraiser has been a big winner for 23 years.

“I’m very excited because there has been a lot of community support,” she said. “I already have people lining up to take part again next year.”
