CORNWALL, Ontario – Over $3 million has been raised across the country as a part of SPCA National Cupcake Day, which takes place annually on Feb. 25.

“Cupcake Day helps us raise funds for the shelter, helps us look after the animals, for medical attention and surgeries,” said Debbie Baxtar, Animal Care Assistant. “So, this is a nation-wide Cupcake Day that raises important funds. It’s so beneficial to the animals and the people who get cupcakes.”

Manager at OSPCA of SDG Carol Link said this year’s goal of raising $12,000 hasn’t been met yet but she expects funds to continue trickling in throughout March as various community members hosted their own private cupcake parties, and local schools also created their own initiatives.

“It has been successful so far,” said Baxtar.

Ann St. Louis dropped by the OSPCA of SDG to make a donation as part of Cupcake Day. She adopted her five-year-old pooch named Buddy at the shelter in the past.

“It’s a good cause and I’d like to help save the animals as much as I can,” said St. Louis.
