CORNWALL, Ontario – It’s one game in the bank, and one to build on for the Cornwall Colts.

Cornwall came out strong, but could not sustain pressure over 60 minutes and dropped a 5-2 decision to Longueuil College Francais to open the Fred Page Cup Wednesday night.

Marly Quince got the host team going early – on Cornwall’s first shot, roaring down the right side and launching a quick one through Longueuil goalie Kevin Darveau at 2:12 of the first period.

Colts’ goalie Denny Dubblestyne had a couple of strong saves before flubbing a rebound and Maxime Guyon notched his first of the game.

Guyon fired another past the Colts’ netminder in the second period, before Tristen Elie knocked the puck in off a scramble in front of the Longueuil net while falling down.

Longueuil’s Matt Olivier scored to make it 3-2 for the visitors before the second period was finished.

Maxime Chagnon and Alexis Guilbault added singles for Longueuil in the third.

Cornwall carried a shot advantage throughout the game, finishing up with 37 to Longueuil’s 32.

The Colts powerplay didn’t help on this night, going 0-5 and giving up two breakaways on the same man advantage in the third period.
