CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Classics will represent the city and the province of Ontario at the Canada 55+ Hockey Championships on Aug. 20 to the 25 in Saint John, New Brunswick. The Classics won the right to go to the tournament after winning silver at the Ontario Senior Championships during the summer of 2017.
“We’ve played with each other over the many years,” said Alex Herrington of the Cornwall Classics when asked how hockey changes as you get older. “We’re still a competitive group of old timers”.
The Canada Senior’s tournament only happens every four years, and the Classics team had competed in the 2014 national event in Edmonton.
As well, the Laframboise Group have assembled a 60+ team to compete in that category at the Canada Senior Championships.
“The intent is to keep playing the game as long as you can and to stay healthy as long as you can,” said Earl McBean of the 60+ team.
The 55+ and 60+ teams have been practicing every Tuesday at the Benson Centre in preparation for the national titles.
