CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) is warning of a scam on the rise in Cornwall.
“There have been ongoing incidents where a person posts a fraudulent add for apartments available for rent and request the victim to send a deposit to secure the apartment,” reads a statement on the CCPS website. “The victim then learns the apartment is occupied by someone or the address is non-existent, leaving them scammed out of the deposit.”
Police warn residents to be careful when responding to ads online.
