Heroic police actions honoured

CORNWALL, Ontario – After 25 year of service, Cornwall police Acting Staff Sgt. George Knezevic continues to go above and beyond the call of duty.

The 54-year-old Montreal native received several accolades at the Cornwall Police Association’s 21st annual retirement and recognition evening on Thursday evening at the Ramada Inn and Conference Centre.

“It’s a calling…for me it’s not a job,” said Knezevic. “i was given the opportunity from Cornwall. I love serving the community and making sure people know police officers are approachable.”

Knezevic, and 13 other Cornwall Community Police Service staffers, were feted with the Community Service Award for helping an elderly couple buy back a wedding ring that was pawned to buy groceries after CCPS were called to their residence for a domestic dispute.

In addition, Knezevic took home the Inovation & Creativity Award with Cst. Rodney Gegray and Auxiliary Sgt. Anna Joseph, a CCPS Exemplary Service Award for 25 years behind the badge, and is the first recipient of the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Highlanders regimental coin, a new presenation added to the event.
