House fire on Second St. E.
Cornwall Fire Services attack a house fire on Second St. E. on Wednesday

CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall Fire Services arrived on the scene of a fire on Second St. E. at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018.

The fire occurred at a house on Second St. E. between Guy St. and St. Felix. That section of the road was closed to traffic in both directions.

Seaway News spoke with the homeowner who said that he was working on renovations in the basement when he heard a knock at the door, when he went outside he said he saw flames coming out of the back of his garage.

The homeowner said that everyone got out safe.

The fire eventually spread to the second floor of the house. Cornwall Fire Services had cut a hole in the roof to attack the fire from above.

Cornwall Electric arrived on the scene at around 10:45 a.m. and cut power to the home.

No word yet as to the cause of the fire.

Cornwall Fire Services were getting the fire under control as of 11 a.m.
