CORNWALL, Ontario – The Welland and District OSPCA Mobile Spay & Neuter clinic stopped in Cornwall on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018.

On the first day of the clinic, 15 dogs and 18 cats were spayed and neutered. The clinic, which was based at the Civic Complex, planned to re-open on Friday and spay or neuter another 37 cats.

Cornwall and area residents had an opportunity to register for this week’s clinic back in September.

“We are the only licensed mobile clinic in the province of Ontario,” said Welland & District OSPCA Executive Director John Greer.

The mobile clinic makes about 20 to 30 trips around the province every year.

The clinic spays or neuters cats for $90 and dogs for $150. For that price however, the pet does get a full-wellness treatment which includes the insertion of a tracking chip and vaccinations.

Greer said that he was aware of the recent issues Cornwall has faced with feral cats and says that spay & neuter is the best solution to Cornwall’s population problem.

“This is a great and innovative idea to deal with the feral cat problem,” said Greer.

Greer said that the clinic plans to return to Cornwall for a full five days in 2019, probably sometime in the Spring.

“Now that we better understand the needs of the community we are better prepared to deal with them,” he explained.
