City of Cornwall unveils new website

CORNWALL, Ontario – On Wednesday, Nov. 14 the City of Cornwall launched their new website.

The previous version of their website had been in use for around a decade.

eSolutions, the company that has maintained the Cornwall website was contracted to help build the new one. According City of Cornwall Public Information Coordinator Emma Meldrum, project fees for the new website amounted to $19,900.

The City touts the website as being fully accessible, billingual and mobile friendly.

New features included in the website are a searchable database for by-laws, a community calendar, a How do I section that offers answers to frequently asked questions and a Talk to Us section for public engagement.

In addition to these new features the new website has re-organized information under different menus to make content easier to find.

“The new and improved cornwall.ca will make it easier than ever to find relevant information about City programs, services and events,” said Meldrum. “The City’s website is a living document. It will continue to evolve and change based on residents’ needs.”

Meldrum will be hosting demonstrations of the new website at the City of Cornwall Public Library on Nov. 29 at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Cornwall states that it was one of the first municipalities to develop a website in 1996.

This iteration of the website was worked on by about 40 web editing staff and work began in March 2017. Around 25 web editors were given training to enhance their skills.

According to the City of Cornwall, the website sees approximately 12,000 visitors a month. Most popular pages are about Cornwall Transit routes, career information, the schedule for the Aquatic Centre and profiles of City Councillors.
