More than $5M in City of Cornwall salaries on sunshine list

There`s more than $5 million in City of Cornwall salaries that were made public March 23 as part of Ontario`s list of those who made $100,000 or more 2011.

No fewer than 45 people employed by the city made more than $100,000 each in 2011.

Leading the list was city CAO Paul Fitzpatrick who pocketed $183,079.70 plus $1,924.14 in benefits, according to a list released by the Ontario Ministry of Finance.

Cornwall police chief Dan Parkinson came next, raking in $152,650 plus $7,129 in benefits, closely followed by deputy chief Danny Aikman, who made $142,332 plus $5,129 in benefits.

Norm Levac, the city`s public works manager, and Stephen Alexander, the planning manager, each hauled in $137,017 plus $3,303 in benefits for 2011.

City finance manager Maureen Adams ranked fifth on the list with $133,591 in salary and $3,265 in benefits.

Many of the spots on the list have been taken up by other individuals employed with the Cornwall Community Police Service, including several rank and file officers, sergeants and managers.

Former city human resources manager Robert Menagh is on the list. He made nearly $125,000 in 2011. He was fired by the city earlier this year, in the wake of a whistleblower scandal that saw the city fined $15,000 for retaliating against one of its employees.

Beyond city hall the list of salaries balloons even more. The top earner on the sunshine list for the local area is Eastern Ontario Health Unit medical officer of health Paul Roumeliotis who brought home $300,449.78.

At  the Cornwall Community Hospital, CEO Jeanette Despatie earned $233,077.19. There were 16 registered nurses also on the list making between $103,000 and $134,000. At Winchester District Memorial Hospital, CEO Trudy Reid had a salary of $218,947.66.

In education, St. Lawrence College Cornwall Dean Don Fairweather had a salary of $139,636.35.

At the Upper Canada District School Board, superintendent David Coombs made $157,194.52. Director of education David Thomas had a paycheque of $211,184.22. The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario’s director of education, Bill Gartland, had a salary of $201,758.60.
