CORNWALL, Ontario – A devastating fire has ripped through a home in South Dundas, sending flames and thick acrid smoke into the air.

The home on County Road 41 near Upper Canada Campground was completely engulfed in towering flames when Melanie Jodoin and her family were driving by on Highway 401.

“We saw black smoke way up ahead on the highway and as we got closer we noticed it wasn’t getting any better then we started to see the flames and firefighters there,” she said. “The whole entire house was in flames. It was awful.”

The family was returning from an event in Ottawa when they say the fire just before 7 p.m. Sunday.

Jodoin posted a video of the fire on the Seaway News Facebook page.

“That is scary!” exclaimed one of the children in the Jodoin vehicle as the fire raged.

It is unclear how the fire was sparked or if there were any injuries.

More to come.
