Longtime hardware store owner Allan Snetsinger passes away

CORNWALL, Ontario – Allan Snetsinger was a prominent member of Cornwall’s business and non-profit communities for many years. He passed away at Cornwall Community Hospital on Wednesday, May 15, surrounded by family. He was 90-years-old.

Allan Snetsinger’s life long passion was running Snetsinger’s Hardware Store. Located on Pitt. St., Allan spent sixty years helping his customers repair treasures, and build for their future.

Allan was Chair of the Board of the Cornwall General Hospital, a former President and Founding Member of the Optimist Club.  He was also past President of Cornwall Masonic Corinthian Lodge and member and past President of Karnac Shriners in 1993.

Rory MacLennan, another former President of the local Shriners remembered Allan as someone you could count on.

“He participated in a lot of Shrine events and he was always one of those guys you could count on to be there to help,” MacLennan said. “His wife remembered he always loved going to Shrine meetings.”

A memorial service was held for Snetsinger on May 22 and he was interned at St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery in Ingleside on Friday, May 24.

Memorial donations to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, Montreal are greatly appreciated by the family.
