LAROCQUE, Marcel - Died peacefully at Hospice Cornwall surrounded by his family, on Sunday, September 14, 2014. Marcel Paul Larocque of Cornwall; age 62. Survived by his sisters Jeanne Hassall (Willie), Edna Boyer (Roger), Pauline Jodoin (Ronnie) and Jacqueline Regnier (Richard). Predeceased by his parents Edgar Larocque and Donalda (Duperron) Larocque and by siblings Marcel, Raymond, Jacques and Jacqueline. BARIL, Norman - Mr. Norman Baril passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital - McConnell Site on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the age of 78 years. Cherished husband of 57 years to Darleen Baril (née McKissock). Loved father of Louise-Andrée Baril, Michel (Irene Larin), and Pierre (Mary). LUNDGAARD, Leif - 26 Feb 1926 - 9 Sept 2014 - Passed away at the Glengarry Memorial Hospital with his beloved partner and best friend Caroline at his side. Leif was born in Vang, Norway to parents Olaf and Anna. With his father, he served in the resistance during the Nazi occupation of Norway and later with the Norwegian Brigade in Finmark and Germany. A champion in orienteering, ski jumping and cross country skiing, he came to Canada in 1965 to participate in Canadian ski marathons and arctic field work with the Polar Continental Shelf Project. He participated in polar research projects including North Pole 1967 and 1969, AIDJAX 1971-72 and 1975-76, LOREX 1979, CESAR 1983, Hobson’s Choice ice island (1980s), as well as research on Canadian arctic glaciers. In 1993, he traveled from Russia to the Canadian Arctic over the North Pole with a scientific research team. He retired in 1997 and devoted his energies to orienteering and his country property near St. Andrews West, Ontario. He is survived by his partner Caroline Phillips, his brother Ola (Åse) and nieces and nephews in Norway. He is predeceased by his parents, sister Ester and brothers Odd and Karl. Thank you for the excellent care he received at Maxville Manor and the Glengarry Memorial Hospital. A celebration of Leif’s life will be held at Maxville Manor on Sunday, Sept. 21 from 3 to 5 pm. ALEINIK, Terry - Age 54 years, passed away suddenly on Monday, September 8th. Loving husband of Linda (née Yates), and proud and loving father of Kevin and Matthew. Predeceased by her parents Jeremie and Anna (Dagenais) Morin, by her late husbands Emile Trepanier and Walter Sugars, and her siblings, Alcide (Alice) Morin, Pierre Rene (Yolande) Morin, Ambroise (Beatrice) Morin, Romeo Morin (Rita Vallee), Annette (Fernand) Gadbois and Hubert (Evelyn) Morin. She is survived by her sons Emile (Jacqueline) Trepanier of Alexandria, ON, Camille (Denise) Trepanier of St. Catharines, ON, and Claude (Francine) Trepanier of Saguenay, QC and grandchildren Michael, Mark, Lynne, Daniel, Stephan, Eric, Judith and Isabelle and great-grandchildren Noah, Mika, Jacques, Camila, Nicolas, Isabelle and Jeremie. While her earlier life was spent in the Cornwall area, she resided for many years at 39 Raglan St. in Toronto and attended Holy Rosary Church on St. Clair Ave. Cremation has already taken place. The service and burial is scheduled in the parish of Our Lady of the Angels, Moose Creek, ON, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2014. YATES, Kenneth Horace - Age 84. Ken passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 21, 2014 of natural causes. Ken will be sadly missed by children Robert (Johanne), Linda Aleinik (Terry) and Gordon, grandchildren Guillaume, Kevin, Matthew, Kira and Andrew, and nephew Tom Joyce. Ken was predeceased by his loving wife Norma (nee Pinnock) and sister Eileen (the late Tom Sr.). His absence will also be dearly felt by his many friends in Owen Sound and his extended family, brother-in-law Ross Pinnock (Helene), sister-in-law Shirley Johnson (the late Doug) and sister-in-law Dorothy (the late Clark Pinnock). A graduate of the University of Toronto, Ken joined Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951. He then taught Physical Education at Jarvis Collegiate in Toronto, Brampton Secondary School, Bramalea Secondary School, and then retired in 1988 after 22 years at West Hill Secondary School in Owen Sound. Ken was also instrumental in running the Army Cadet corps at the Owen Sound Armouries, where he acted as CO for twenty years. Ken was an avid fitness enthusiast, an athlete and a coach to many. He was often seen at the Y doing workouts in the gym or lengths in the pool. For years, he and Norma played tennis at the Indian Falls courts, and were enthusiastic square dancers at the local club. Ken's family will receive visitors at the Best Western Inn on the Bay (1800-2nd Avenue East) from 11 am – 2 pm on Thursday, August 28th. GRAY, Jim (James Urgel Joseph Gray) - March 15, 1923 - August 17, 2014. James "Jim" Gray passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on Sunday, August 17, 2014, leaving behind his loving wife of 52 years, Ruth (Johnsen). Jim was the son of the late James Gray and Anna St. Amand. He is predeceased by brothers Emerson, Arthur, Duncan and Allan and sisters Kathleen and Helen. Survived by loving sisters Marguerite Bergeron and Ruth Lussier. Jim leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. Jim was a dedicated Civil Servant with the Department of Transportation as well as the Department of National Defense. Jim was a veteran of the Second World War serving with RCAF and RAF as a member of the Lancaster crew. He flew 43 missions and recently received the Bomber Command Bar from the Government of Canada, recognizing his service. He enjoyed tennis, was an avid golfer and greatly enjoyed his yearly driving trips to Florida. Jim and Ruth also spent many happy summers at their cottage. Special thanks to the staff of 7NW for their compassionate care to both Jim and his family.
