DAVID, Beverly (Ellis) - In her 71st year, Bev passed away with her family by her side at Hospice Cornwall on August 22, 2014. She leaves her loving husband of 50 years, Cyril David. Loving mother of Jason (Natalie), Zachary (Nicole), Luke (Nicole), Marni Bilmer (Doug) and Tiffany Tougas (Emile). Sadly missed by 8 grandchildren, Natasha, Seryca, Dustin, Corbin, Jasmynn, Logan, Noah and Keziah. YATES, Kenneth Horace - Age 84. Ken passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 21, 2014 of natural causes. Ken will be sadly missed by children Robert (Johanne), Linda Aleinik (Terry) and Gordon, grandchildren Guillaume, Kevin, Matthew, Kira and Andrew, and nephew Tom Joyce. Ken was predeceased by his loving wife Norma (nee Pinnock) and sister Eileen (the late Tom Sr.). His absence will also be dearly felt by his many friends in Owen Sound and his extended family, brother-in-law Ross Pinnock (Helene), sister-in-law Shirley Johnson (the late Doug) and sister-in-law Dorothy (the late Clark Pinnock). A graduate of the University of Toronto, Ken joined Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951. He then taught Physical Education at Jarvis Collegiate in Toronto, Brampton Secondary School, Bramalea Secondary School, and then retired in 1988 after 22 years at West Hill Secondary School in Owen Sound. Ken was also instrumental in running the Army Cadet corps at the Owen Sound Armouries, where he acted as CO for twenty years. Ken was an avid fitness enthusiast, an athlete and a coach to many. He was often seen at the Y doing workouts in the gym or lengths in the pool. For years, he and Norma played tennis at the Indian Falls courts, and were enthusiastic square dancers at the local club. Ken's family will receive visitors at the Best Western Inn on the Bay (1800-2nd Avenue East) from 11 am – 2 pm on Thursday, August 28th. GRAY, Jim (James Urgel Joseph Gray) - March 15, 1923 - August 17, 2014. James "Jim" Gray passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on Sunday, August 17, 2014, leaving behind his loving wife of 52 years, Ruth (Johnsen). Jim was the son of the late James Gray and Anna St. Amand. He is predeceased by brothers Emerson, Arthur, Duncan and Allan and sisters Kathleen and Helen. Survived by loving sisters Marguerite Bergeron and Ruth Lussier. Jim leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. Jim was a dedicated Civil Servant with the Department of Transportation as well as the Department of National Defense. Jim was a veteran of the Second World War serving with RCAF and RAF as a member of the Lancaster crew. He flew 43 missions and recently received the Bomber Command Bar from the Government of Canada, recognizing his service. He enjoyed tennis, was an avid golfer and greatly enjoyed his yearly driving trips to Florida. Jim and Ruth also spent many happy summers at their cottage. Special thanks to the staff of 7NW for their compassionate care to both Jim and his family. GUDELIS, Jonas In the early morning hours of August 1st, Jonas Gudelis passed away 28 days short of his 90th birthday. Born in Pasvalys, Lithuania, he had an idyllic childhood until the winds of WWII began to blow across Europe. He and his older brother Petras swam across the river to escape their now occupied country, then realized that one of them would have to return home to look after their widowed mother and four sisters. A coin was tossed and Jonas continued on, escaping certain death several times which led him to believe that he had an angel on his shoulder and that God walked with him every step of the way. After the war, Jonas married his German sweetheart Elfriede (Freda) Wolff in 1950 and the couple decided to make a new life for themselves in Canada, quickly settling in Cornwall where they found work, learned the language and then sponsored Freda’s sister Martha and her husband Pranas (Frank) Barkauskas into the country. Three children followed: Diana, Linda and Jonas (John), and eventually sons-in-law Ranny Shayler, Sean Adams and daughter-in-law Rachel (Martineau); a proud Opa to Trevor and Christie Shayler, Nikolai Adams, and Markus Gudelis. Years later, another sister, Katharina Zaczyk and her two children were also sponsored into the country to make a new life in Canada. Jonas was a kind, gentle and private man; sharp and curious till the very end; playing chess with the computer and taking apart appliances and electronic devices to see what made them work before re-assembling them. He could fix anything. He was our MacGyver. He built his two homes as well as a 24 foot pontoon boat which took up an enormous amount of space in our driveway for many years until completion. He spoke three languages fluently and could understand several more. He was a great dancer. He marvelled at the beauty and miracle of nature. He was his own healer. He saw God’s hand in everything. He stayed fiercely independent until the very end, walking into the arms of the EMT’s who laid him down so very gently in his own hallway where he likely died instantly, their supreme efforts unable to coax him back into this world. We would like to express our deep gratitude to the EMT’s who responded to the 911 call; to Allan Wilson of Wilson’s Funeral Home, whose empathy care and dedication will always be appreciated and remembered; to Father Kevin Maloney, whose prayers and words were a soothing balm to our aching hearts; and finally, to Sean Adams, who moved heaven and earth to give his father-in-law the perfect send-off. A private wake was held August 2nd at the Wilson Funeral Home followed by a Christian funeral service and burial at the St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery in Ingleside. ‘The record shows I took the blows- And did it my way!’ Will be eternally loved and remembered by the Gudelis family, the Zaczyk and Sauve families, the Shayler family and the Adams family. PAYETTE, Jesse Bruce - Of Seguin and formerly of Kincardine, at the Humber River Hospital, Church Street Site, Toronto on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 in his 28th year. Beloved son of Bruce and Annemarie (Hunt) Payette of Kincardine. Much loved fiancé of Emma Winkler. Dear brother of Allison Payette (Shawn Sonnenberg) of Cornwall, Matthew (Jasmin) Payette of Rainbow Lake, Alberta, Cole (Amanda) Payette of Sudbury and Mason Payette of Belleville. Loving uncle of Tansy, Porcia, Matt Jr., Deegan and Brooklyn. Fondly remembered by his grandparents, Theresa Turcotte of Cornwall and Reginald and Helen Hunt of Massena, New York. Sadly missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends. Jesse graduated from Huron Heights P.S. and Kincardine and District Secondary School. While growing up in Kincardine Jesse was an avid sportsman. He participated vigorously and competitively in hockey, soccer, track and field, basketball, stunt rollerblading and snowboarding. He received numerous awards. After school he began to focus his attention and creativity in cooking, which he loved. He attended N.B.C.C. in St. Andrews, N.B. He credits Chef Dave Irvin with inspiring a love and passion for cooking that he carried into every creative endeavor since. He graduated from N.B.C.C. from the Culinary Skills – Chef Training Program. He received many accolades for his cooking while he attended, including a silver medal finish in the Maritimes Provincial Skills Cooking Competition. Jesse was a creative and gifted chef who was privileged to work with amazing master chefs and chef mentors too many to mention. He especially liked working with his friend and mentor, Danny Mongeon, who he worked with at Brut Cantina Sociale in Ottawa and followed to help open Hooch Bourbon House in Ottawa. Most recently he worked at Grand Electric Muskoka. Jesse loved spending his free time with Emma and his dogs. He loved their travels and adventures. He loved music and reading. He loved spending time with his brothers and sister and traveled to see them as often as possible. He loved visiting his grandparents. He loved his whole family and was especially close to his Aunt Cathie Larose. He had a special bond with his young nieces and nephews and cousins. Children loved him and gravitated to him and his child like spirit. His joyous and infectious love of life and tales of his adventures kept us all laughing and smiling every moment we spent with him. Jesse had a kind, gentle heart and donated anonymously to children who could not afford to play sports. Doreen was the loving daughter of the late James Alfred and Ada Darcy (Boxwell) Wilson. She was the kind and caring sister of Elaine Wilson, Gertrude Fyfe (John) and Joyce Jamieson (Roney) all of Cornwall. MONTREUIL, Margarite Marcelline "Yvonne" (née Laframboise) - Passed away peacefully at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the age of 91 years. Predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph Clifford Montreuil; her parents, Théophile and Melina (née Lalonde) Laframboise; and her brothers and sisters, Théophile Jr., Wilfred, Jimmy, Edmond, Goldie, Eugene, Oscar, William, Isabel, Arthur and Frances. Yvonne could be seen walking to the wharf in South Lancaster for a swim several times a day from early May until mid October. She was an avid gardener and loved to fish. Rarely did you go to her house without someone being there playing cards (for a buck) or having a meal. Most of all she loved being with her family. She will be greatly missed by her four children, Marguerite (Alfred Napper), Wilfrid (Janice née Kaye), Catherine (Brian Fisher) and Madeleine (Pat St. Pierre); her 13 grandchildren; her 22 great- grandchildren; and her 1 great-great-grandchild. The family would like to thank the staff at Heartwood for the wonderful care given to their mother over the past few years.
