DJURIN, Hilda - Passed away peacefully at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Sunday, May 10, 2015. Hilda Djurin of Austria; age 87 years. Beloved friend of Madame Johanne. Dear daughter of the late Wilfred Besner and the late Albina (Lalande) Besner. Madeleine initially worked as a teacher and librarian, then for Parks Canada and at Transport Canada (TCTI) from its opening until retirement. She enjoyed music and playing keyboard, ballroom dancing, bowling, curling, swimming, boating, travelling and was always smiling. Special thanks to everyone who helped Madeleine during her illness. TAILLON, Raymond - It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce that Raymond Taillon crossed over while in Hospice Cornwall on Friday, May 15, 2015 at the age of 84 years to reunite with the love of his life Shirley whom he often referred to as the "Old Girl". Raymond missed her every day since her passing, but no longer. Dad cherished his memories of belonging to St. Andrew's Volunteer Fire Department, Knights of Columbus and the Church Choir. He moved to Cornwall in 2009, but his heart still belonged in St. Andrrew's. He took many drives to St. Andrew's to catch up with old friends. Dad has left us but never will be forgotten. He leaves behind to grieve, his children: Michael Taillon (Christie) and Deborah Alguire (Jeff). Grampa to Justin, Jordan, Jasmine and Jameson Taillon and Bubba to Adam, Ryan and Lindsey Alguire. He also leaves his sister Jackie Campbell and nephew Brent Taillon. He was predeceased by his parents: Lena (Lavictoire) and Delcour Taillon, one son: Kevin Taillon, one brother: Maurice and one sister: Marg. Local Cremation. GAINES, Ronald - 1948 – 2015 - A longtime Cornwall taxi driver; Ronald Gaines, died May 18, 2015 at the Cornwall Community Hospital from complications due to a malignant brain tumor. Ronald was born in Cornwall, the son of the late John and Agnes Gaines. Ronald leaves his brothers Maurice (Agnes) of Kingston and Armand (Veronica) of Iroquois. Besides his parents, Ronald was pre-deceased by his sister Guelda Rupert of Iroquois; his brothers Richard (late Carmel) and Gary (Rejeanne) both of Cornwall. Also pre-deceased by his nephews, Timothy from Cornwall, and Ernest and Edmond from Kingston. A special thank you to the Doctors, nurses and staff for the loving care Ronald received while he was at the Ottawa Civic and General Hospitals and the Cornwall Community Hospital. Many thanks to his co-workers who were so kind and helpful to Ronald before he became ill and for their many visits while in the hospital. HEBERT, Dr. Louis - Dr. Hebert passed away peacefully at Sunrise Assisted Living, Burlington on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the age of 96 years. He was a well-respected general practitioner in Cornwall for over 40 years and was the beloved husband of the late Jane Hebert (April 30, 2007) and loving father of Marie-Louise Marlow (Frank Nagy), Lorette Taylor (John) and Louis-Paul. PENDERGAST, William Joseph Barrett - August 10, 1926 - May 3, 2015. Born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. Preceded by his parents Harold and Mary Pendergast, brothers James and Frank, sister Elizabeth, and wife Margaret. He leaves behind his sister Marian, brother Michael, sons Michael and David, granddaughters Barrett and Harper, and dozens of nieces and nephews. A US citizen but always a proud Canadian, Bill worked for close to 40 years for CIBC (later California Canadian Bank) where he made many friends and met his wife of 36 years. Beginning his career as a clerk/teller in Toronto, he retired from CCB in San Francisco as a Senior Vice President. Bill was a proud UC Berkeley graduate where he received his BA in Renaissance and Reformation Studies in 1997 at the age of 71. Bill was an avid hockey fan, bicyclist, periodic SF Giants season-ticket holder, 20-gallon blood donor, and doting grandfather. A 40+ year resident of San Francisco, he attended SF City College, SF State University, and was active in the St. Vincent de Paul school and St. Ignatius College Prep communities. PAYETTE, Adrienne Lise -at her home in Marysville, B.C. on May 2nd, 2015. Beloved daughter of Juliette Payette and the late Gerard Payette. Dear mother of Ronald Payette of Cornwall and Pierre Chartrand of L'Orignal, ON. Grandmother of Kaitlynn Payette. Dear sister of Marcel Payette of Burlington, ON and Robert Payettte of Cornwall. ROBERTS, Ron -Former Cornwall resident, broadcaster Ron Roberts, self-dubbed "The Rotund One", passed away in Halifax following a short illness. Ron began his radio career in Cornwall at CJSS in the late '40s, hired by then-manager Harrison Flint. Further career stops included CFRA Ottawa where he worked for Frank Ryan and with Fred Davis. Next came Chatham, Ont, Massena and Syracuse NY, and CJAD Montreal, then settling in Halifax radio in the early '70s. Ron was an ardent Frank Sinatra fan and treasured an autographed photo received from his idol. He is survived by his sister Eleanor Reid of Almonte, Ont; nieces Lynn Upson of Brantford, Ont., Robyn Johnson of Kingston, Ont. and Jocelyn McPhail of Almonte, Ont; nephews Jack Roberts of London, Ont., Jeff Evason of Maryland, USA and cousin Joan Evason of Cornwall Ont. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Lambert and Kathleen Roberts, and older brother Maurice. A memorial service has been planned for mid-June in Halifax. He will be missed.

 

SCHNEIDER, Kaspar - Peacefully at the Tsi Ion Kwa Nonh So Te Adult Care Facility, Cornwall Island, on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, Kaspar Schneider of Cornwall, formerly of Montreal, in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of the late Magdalena Butter-Walter. Loving father of Katharina V. (Raymond) LePage of Cornwall. Fondly remembered by André (Josée) Lepage, Monique Lepage (Saad) and Julie (Marc) Brassard and their families. Predeceased by his parents Franz Schneider and Anna Haubert. BEATTIE, Jean Marilyn (Douglas) - August 12, 1933 - May 12, 2014. It is with heavy hearts that the family announces Jean's passing one year ago, at Sandfield Place LTC in Cornwall. Jean was born in Windsor Ont. She along with her family moved to Cornwall in 1934 Education was her passion. She attended Central Public School and C.C.V.S. Post secondary she completed a home economics program at Ryerson in Toronto as well as bachelor of arts programs at the University of Ottawa. Jean was gifted in her abilities to sew, cook and garden. Always available to share with whoever was interested. Jean was so proud of her scottish heritage. For years she highland danced competitively. Basketball was yet another interest, playing competitively both at C.C.V.S. and Ryerson. Jean was the loved daughter of the late Harry James and Sadie Grace Douglas. Dear sister of Doreen Fleming (Late William) of Ingleside and Charlotte Geddes (Ellery 'Bucky') of Carp, Ont. Predeceased by siblings: Harold Douglas (Betty McKenzie), Robert (Bob) Douglas (Barbara), and Shirley Douglas. A very proud aunt to fourteen nieces and nephews. It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Jessie 'Lorraine' Gordon on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Cornwall Community Hospital. Born in Montreal, Quebec she was the daughter of the late William and Jessie Ballantyne. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (James), Pickering and Jane (Rev. Ian) of Williamstown. She was predeceased by her husband Alexander and siblings Lillian, Douglas and Sheila Ballantyne. She will be greatly missed by her cherished grandchildren Megan, David and Emily. CLATWORTHY, Vera (née McMaster) - 1931-2015. Passed away peacefully at Maxville Manor on Sunday, May 3, 2015. She was predeceased by her parents Duncan and Bella McMaster; her older brother Donald; and by her younger sister Margaret Quenneville. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband James A. Clatworthy. Vera was born and raised in Avonmore, Ontario. After High School, she attended Ottawa Normal School to become a teacher. Her passion for teaching changed many lives, as some of her students still corresponded with her for decades. Vera will be greatly missed by her three sons: Jim of Sylvan Lake, AB; John of Cornwall, ON; and Bob (Hedwig) of Glen Andrew, ON. Vera cherished her grandchildren: Yolanda, Jimmy, Erika (Arno), Dawson, Duncan; and her great granddaughter Marli. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 2 PM at St. Andrew's Presbyterian, 3256 Main St., Avonmore, ON. MÉNARD, Irène - A Celebration Of Life The family of Irene Ménard will celebrate a much-loved mother, Nana and grand'maman on this coming Mother's Day weekend. Irène Ménard died at the Community Nursing Home in Alexandria, on January 6, 2015, just nine days before her 102nd birthday. A long life well lived! Her positive attitude, wonderful sense of humour and strong work ethics endeared her to many people. She was open and accepting of all. Elle était une femme élégante et chaleureuse qui était toujours intéressé à tous les évènements surtout dans la vie des siens. She gave generously of her time and talents to her family, her church and to many associations in the community. The staff of the Nursing Home commented many times that she brightened their day. Her presence and her contributions made a significant difference. Survived by 25 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
