ROY, Rita - Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Continuing Care Center on Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Marie Rita Annabelle (Leduc) Roy of Cornwall; age 79 years. Beloved wife of the late Marcel Roy. Dear mother of Michel Roy (Linda Pane), Robert Roy (Monique) and Suzanne Delorme (Andre) all of Cornwall. Loving grandmother of Patrick, Mathieu, Alain and Melissa Roy, Mario and Bianca Delorme. Dear daughter of the late Dalma Leduc and the late Marie-Reine Periard. Survived by her brother Claude Leduc (Diane) of Valleyfield, and sister Laurette Montpetit (Donatien) of Hawkesbury. Will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews. SAUVE, Ronald Vincent - Passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Wednesday, October 15, 2014. He was 84. Owner of Sutton Adjusting Bureau, Ron had a lifelong passion for fishing and spent many happy days on the St. Lawrence River. Husband of Rita (Jodoin) Sauve. STRAARUP, Isabel Mary - Isabel Straarup lost her 12-year battle against ovarian cancer on Friday, October 10th, 2014 at Medicine Hat, Alberta. Isabel was born and raised in Apple Hill, Ontario by parents Duncan & Myrtle Christie. Upon completion of high school, Isabel attended Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario receiving her BA. She went on to receive her teaching degree from UBC. Ken & Isabel moved to Medicine Hat in 1977, where Isabel taught ECS in Seven Persons. When Ken and Stan opened Main Floor Carpets in 1985, Isabel volunteered to do the books to help them get started. She ended up working there until the time of her passing. She was very passionate about her work -- the last five years she was almost continuously on chemo, but kept working every day. She was determined not to let cancer take over her life. Isabel is survived by her husband and best friend, Ken; children Michael (Stephanie) Brennan, Tammy (Kevin) Teslyk, and Jason (Erin) Straarup. Ken and Isabel have been blessed with six precious grandsons: Caden, Nathan and Zachary Teslyk, Ryler and Avery Straarup, and Jake Brennan. Isabel is also survived by her brother, Donald (Diane) Christie; as well as Ken's brothers, sister, and parents, Stig & Hanne Andersen. Isabel loved family dinners and took pride in setting a beautiful table (we will remember the tablecloths!). Ken and Isabel enjoyed a number of fabulous trips, especially the family trips to Barbados and Bahamas, where Tammy and Kevin lived, and the most recent family camping trip.

MACPHERSON, Gerarld MacPherson – Born on January 1, 1923 in Marysville, NB. Died peacefully at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the age of 91 years. Loving husband of the late Yvette Rita (Brunet) MacPherson. He will be sadly missed by his children Scott, Sandra Barlow (Pat), Stephen (Chantal) and Stuart. Beloved Grandfather of Shane (Sarah), Genevieve Poirier (Donald), Karen Tremblay (Marc), Hope, Christopher, Benjamin and Lauren. Doting "Grampy Number Two" of Caroline, Magalie and Zoïque, Tristan, Jacob, Christopher, Steven and Jake. Brother of Earl MacPherson. Predeceased by his sisters Marion Lemire (late Adelard), Ellen Warner (late Jack), Ann Ross (Floyd) and infant granddaughter Katie. A proud member of the famous Black Watch Regiment, Gerry was a World War II veteran and a loyal supporter of the Cornwall Legion. One of the longest surviving World War Two veterans in the Cornwall area, Gerry hid a kind and gentle heart behind a gruff facade. He loved spending time with family and friends, sports of any kind, breakfast at Moe’s, Saturday afternoons at the Legion and occasional visits to the Akwesasne Casino. The Family wishes to thank the nurses and medical staff at the Intensive Care Centre and the Janet MacDonell Pavilion for their generous and thoughtful care during his time of need. CHURCH, Joan (née ROBERTSON) 1935- 2014 - Joan Church passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in the comfort of her cottage. Joan, the daughter of John O. Robertson and Evelyn Brown, was born and raised on the West Front family farm along with siblings David, Ruth, and Helen. Joan established a teaching career in Timmins where she met and married Ross Mitchell Church October 1957. Their children Mary-Anne, David and Barbara blessed them with 10 grandchildren. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Ross, her youngest sister Helen Croil Imeson, and brothers-in-law Lorne Aikens and Garnet Kiely. MANSON, Lyall Gordon – December 30, 1941 – October 8, 2014 - Mr. Lyall Manson passed away peacefully at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the age of 72 years. Lyall was born at the Cornwall General Hospital and grew up in the “Lost Village” of Mille Roches, Ontario. Long time teacher at Central Public School. Lyall was a passionate local historian and genealogist. Beloved husband of 50 years to Margaret Turnbull. Loved father of Lieutenant-Colonel Deanna Manson, Stuart Manson (Michelle) and Geoffrey Manson. Grandfather of Cosette and Zoé. Lyall is survived by his sister Lynn Myers (Wayne). FAUBERT, Wayne Lorne - On the afternoon of September 25th, 2014 in La Spezia, Italy, Wayne passed away unexpectedly of natural causes. He went on a high, while vacationing with his wife, experiencing the sights and sounds of a country he had longed to visit. Wayne was 72 years old. Wayne was a devout educator and truly believed in the power of knowledge. He was known for his love of family, music, wine and entertaining. You could be sure to be overwhelmed by the dining presentation for all occasions accompanied by his culinary expertise. Christmastime was a particularly special tradition at the Faubert household. Not a spot was left un-decorated, nor a Christmas album unheard months before Santa delivered his presents. Wayne lived his life to the fullest; married to the love of his life for over 50 years, proud father of four children, accomplished musician, and believed in living for the moment. Wayne was born in the town of Lachine, Quebec, on March 25, 1942. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Agnes Faubert. He is survived by his wife Shirley Faubert. Predeceased by wife, Jacqueline Gadbois (Lefebvre) in 1978, his parents, Clifford and Claire (Leroux) Gadbois and brothers, Garnet, Michael, Douglas, George and Gordon. Survived by his six children, Lana Keough (Dan), Sebastian, Florida, John (Elaine), Cornwall, Dana (Louise), Cornwall, Shean Cholodiuk (William deceased), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Gregg (Kim), Brockville, and Conzy Grant, Edmonton, Alberta. Adrien was born in Tyotown on October 26th, 1926 and lived there most of his life. He was a WW 11 veteran, owned a construction business and developed Sapphire Hills subdivision in his later years. He served his community as a school trustee and a longtime reeve of Charlottenburgh Township. DEROUIN, Fernand (Fern), L. - May 27, 1922 - Sept. 27, 2014. Age 92, originally of Cornwall Ont. passed away September 27, 2014 at Camp Hill Veteran's Memorial Hospital, Halifax, NS. Fern was born in Cornwall Ont. to Onesime and Alida Derouin. In 1944 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was posted in London England. After the war, he met & married Aline Bouchard (who he affectionately called Trixie). He had many careers and businesses in Cornwall,the last being"Fern's Travel ", his favourite because of his love of travel. He escorted groups on trips all over the world. He was a past president of the Lion's Club, a member of the Operatic Society & served on the board of the Public Library. He loved to sing & was often asked to emcee & perform at various events. He made friends everywhere he went and regaled them with his stories & love of life. In 2005, he moved to Halifax to live with his daughter and son in law and proudly called himself a Bluenoser. He was predeceased by his parents; 13 brothers and sisters; and his wife Aline. MCGILLIS, Mary - A life-long resident of Glengarry, Mary Cecilia McGillis (nee Quinn) died Sunday, September 28th, 2014 surrounded by family after a brief illness at Glengarry Memorial Hospital at the age of 91. She was the daughter of late Tom and Pearl (nee McGarry) Quinn of Curry Hill. Mary was a dedicated parishioner of St. Raphael's parish, a life-long member of the Catholic Woman's League and a proud (retired) registered nurse. Her early years were spent on the family farm in Curry Hill on the Concession Rd. 2 with her parents and siblings. Following her marriage to Stanley McGillis in 1949, Mary moved to the McGillis farm on the Little 5th Road in Green Valley. She raised her nine children and enjoyed countless hours with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren both at home and on trips to their homes in North America. She will be dearly missed by her nine children and their spouses; Robin (Jean McLeod), Kevin (Denise Daigle), Christopher, Mary (Lee McIntyre), Helen (Martin Schilt), Jon, Stanley (Darlene Kilbride), Danny (Darlene Grouda), and Thomas. Beloved grandmother of sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Sheila Cashion and Isabel Saunders of Edmonton, Alberta and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
