LEGER, Rita (née Martin) –Passed away peacefully at Chartwell Lancaster surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 27, 2017; age 80 years. Wife of the late Marcel Léger Sr. Predeceased by her son Marcel Léger Jr. Dear mother of André Léger (Dominique) and Anne Gravelle (Marcel). Loving grandmother of Célèste, Julien and Mireille. Dear daughter of the late Donat and Cécile (née Godard) Martin. Survived by her siblings Reynald Martin (Pauline), Sylvia Desjardins and Michel Martin (Diane). OSTAPCHUK, Gary Oliver – Gary O. has delivered his last punch line. Gary passed away peacefully with his wife, Janice by his side on Tuesday evening, April 25, 2017. He leaves behind his three sons, Craig, Jason (Theresa) and Shawn (Maggie). He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Ally, Sam, Ila May, Wyatt, Alexander and Eli as well as his great-grandchildren, Nathan and Nolan. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Ethel and survived by his two sisters, Gloria and Audrey and his brother, Glenn. He will be forever remembered for his sense of humour and generous spirit by his many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, hunting buddies, dart friends and construction co-workers. Helen is survived by her dear siblings Donald (Claudiane), Ottawa; Wesley, Calgary; Colleen Davies (the late Don), Port Lambton; Ruth Slote (the late Tim), Leamington; and brother-in-law Pierre Fortin and sister-in-law Bonnie McDonell. Predeceased by her parents Dan E. and Christena ‘Tina’ McDonell and siblings Georgina (Johnny) McRae, Barbara (Bert) LeVoguer, Mary Fortin, Aeneas (Doris) (Edith) McDonell and Elwyn McDonell. Helen grew up on the family farm in Martintown, Ontario and left home to pursue a career in nursing at the Hotel-Dieu School of Nursing in Cornwall. MASKERY, Wilfred Samuel – At the age of 97 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 18th, 2017 after finally getting to mow his lawn following a long and confining winter. Beloved husband of the late Peggy Maskery (neé Millward); loving father to daughter Angela Shaw (Nick) of New Zealand; grandfather to Ben and Chris Shaw of New Zealand, Melanie Johnsen, and Charles Johnsen of Cornwall; and great-grandfather to Nico Shaw (New Zealand) and Brianna Leroux of Cornwall. Wilfred is also survived by sisters Mary (ON) and Margaret (Birmingham, England), several nieces, including Marilyn (a favorite), Charlotte (greatly admired) and grandnieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a sister, Dorothy, his daughter Pauline Johnsen (James) of Long Sault, and son John, who died in England at birth. Wilfred rose to the rank of Warrant Officer First Class, while flying Spitfire fighter aircraft for Britain’s Royal Airforce, during World War II; and, in five years, progressed from student, to combat pilot, to test pilot, to instructor. After retiring from GEC as head draftsman, Wilfred and Peggy emigrated from England to Canada, making many new friends in Cornwall and Ingleside. In his later years, Wilfred enjoyed gardening, puttering around his house, and reminiscing with friends. He will be sadly missed by all. At Wilfred’s request, there will be no Funeral; but, a Committal Service (for family and close friends) will be held at St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery in the coming months. FORTIN, Wannetta (Reardon) – Wannetta passed away in her 91st year with her loving family at her side on Sunday, April 9th 2017 in North Vancouver. Loved mother of Anne Marie Zayonc (Rick) and three amazing grandchildren Michael, Daniel & Amanda. Wannetta was born in Cornwall on September 26, 1926. She was the dear daughter of Mike & Bertha (Eamer) Reardon, sister to Verna and Mona. She had many friends, nieces, and nephews. Wannetta will be eternally reunited in Cornwall at a later date with her predeceased devoted husband of 60 years Emile (2010) and son Michael (1986). She was a proud 88 year citizen of Cornwall, as well as a longtime parishioner and volunteer of Blessed Sacrament Church. Wannetta was honoured with Ontario’s Volunteer Service Award after more than 40 years of dedicated volunteer work with the Cornwall General Hospital Auxiliary. Mom/Nanny moved to North Vancouver in 2014 to be with her BC family. WHITWORTH, Sheila May (Burternshaw) –With heavy hearts, Sheila’s family announces her passing at Dulcina Hospice in Calgary, AB on Thursday, April 6, 2017. Born November 28, 1935, Sheila grew up in Cornwall and on the farm in Mille Roches where her grandparents resided. Her gregarious nature attracted many friends, several whom she “adopted” over the years. She cherished her grandchildren, had a passion for animals (wolves & cats especially), music, dance, bowling and raising her eight kids. She was a Tom Jones “groupie” and loved listening to Gordon Lightfoot. Survived by her husband of 61 years, John and her devoted children: Margaret (John) of Edmonton, Edmund (Jane) of Ottawa, Ellen of Calgary, Danial (Therese) of Ottawa, Donald (Gail) of Winnipeg, David (Sherrie) of Ottawa, Sylvia of Calgary and Pamela (Greg) of High River. She is also survived by her sister, Sylvia (Crooke) Smith of Cornwall; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Margaret (Steve) Varga and brother-in-law David (Lorraine) Whitworth, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Sheila was predeceased by her parents, Captain Albert Burtenshaw & Pearl (Tallon) of Cornwall, her sister Shirley Kelly of Florida, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Edmund (Harriett) Whitworth, her sisters-in-law: Mary, Sherrill, Cathy & Noreen and her brother-in-law Donald. At Sheila’s request, no service was held. Cremation took place in Calgary. Sheila’s Cremains will be interred at the St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery at a later date.
