GADBOIS, Shirley (née Urquhart) - Shirley Gadbois (née Urquhart) was born on December 12th, 1936 in Maxville, Ontario where she spent much of her youth. She married Dalton Gadbois (of Apple Hill, Ontario) in 1956. Their first of seven children soon followed. The twins, Sharon and Sherry, were born in January 1958. Trent followed in February of 1959. Next came Shelley in 1961 and Tracy in 1963. Shannon was born in 1966, and in 1968 the family moved to Rosedale Terrace in Cornwall Township. Troy, the youngest of the family, was born in 1972. Through the years mom and dad were busy with the kids' activities and sports. Mom and dad were active volunteers in the SD&G Highland Dance Association and they helped to found the St. Andrews Highland Dance Association. While dad worked and helped to run the Gadbois-Branch Hockey School, mom was 'holding the fort' and sewing. She started by making and selling doll clothes and clothing for all of the kids, and she then moved on to highland dance outfits for local dancers. She also made dresses for weddings for several former highland dancers and some family members. After the children started getting married and grandchildren started arriving, mom continued to make clothes. Many of the grandkids got homemade pj's, Halloween costumes, and special blankies. Mom loved seeing her children and grandchildren (both human and pets) and she remembered every birthday and every story she was told. She knew how to make each of us feel unique and important. Throughout the many years of their marriage, mom and dad faced many ups and downs. Most recently, several cancer diagnoses in the family created a new challenge for us all. Despite these challenges, mom continued to be the loving, concerned, good-humoured person she always was. Unfortunately, she experienced a brief illness that took her from us on Monday, June 6, 2016 at the age of 79 years. Although she left us much too soon, she taught us important lessons that will keep her memory alive. We were lucky to have her in our lives until her 80th year. Above all things, she was a model of gentle kindness, forgiveness, and generosity. She put her loved ones ahead of herself and did so without bitterness and without hesitation. Her laughter, warmth, and love are gifts she gave us all and we will carry them with us for the remainder of our lives. Mom was predeceased by her father and her loving mother, Olive Carther. She was also predeceased by her young sister Ana, and her beloved brothers Kenneth, Bennett, and Robert. Left to mourn her absence but to live in her strong memory are Dalton, her husband for almost 60 years, her children Sherry, Sharon, Trent (Debbie), Shelley (Larry), Tracy (Lise), Shannon (Dean), Troy (Lisa), and her grandchildren Tristan, Samantha, Trent, Liane, Madison, Gabrielle, Teisha, Marshall, Annilia, and Elzie. Thank you to all the caring individuals who supported our family during this difficult loss through your presence, prayers, and words of encouragement and remembrance. Thank you also to Dr. Westergaard and the staff at Cornwall Community Hospital for your compassion and professionalism. Thank you to Father Kelvin for your ongoing support of our family. Your presence and your words at her Funeral meant a great deal to all of us.

THOMAS, IDA MAE (JACOBS) - Died peacefully in her sleep on June 1, 2016 at the Cornwall Community Hospital after a 23 year battle with cancer. Ida, or as her family and dearest friends called her, Hub, was born December 23, 1937 at home to Mitchell and Elizabeth (Cook) Jacobs. She attended St. Regis Mohawk School and Massena schools before graduating from Haskell Indian Day School in Lawrence, Kansas. Hub married Ronald Thomas on August 31, 1957 at the St. Regis Catholic Church and was a homemaker for 25 years before returning to work when her youngest children were in high school. Before her illness limited her activities Hub enjoyed crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles and watching the Montreal Canadiens with her husband. Hub also delighted in watching her children and grandchildren play hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball and volleyball; where she could always be counted on to cheer the loudest. But mostly Hub loved being surrounded by her family at weekly spaghetti nights where everyone would gather to talk, laugh and play A to K. Hub is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years Ronald, her sisters Mary Catalano and Shirley Arquette, her chosen sister Ruth Devine (Mike), her seven children Brian (Tammy), Mark (Veronica), April (Andy), Jiggs (Heather), Andy (Glyniss), Colleen (Skahentati), and Chris (Heather); her 19 grandchildren Dayton, Tony, Heather, Maegan, Dave, AJ, Stephen, Kylee (Holden), Nolan, Oakley, Andrew, Abby, Clay, Ronnie Mae, Lindley, Jacob, Jalyn, Bailey and Kaniehtentha. Hub is also survived by ten great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, her brothers-in-law Wayne (Debbie), Roger (Laura), Steve (Candi), Gaylord (Geraldine) and Tom (Leona) and one sister-in-law Rose. She was pre-deceased by a grandson Clint Thomas in 2001, her parents Mitchell and Elizabeth Jacobs in 1972 and 1943, her brother Harry Jacobs in 1991, a sister Marlene Arquette in 2012 and two daughters, Kelly and Mary, in infancy. Hub was a kind and caring wife, mother and grandmother whose bright smile, helpful advice and loving embraces will be missed by many. Calling hours for the late Ida Thomas will be at the Snye Homemaker’s Club starting at 5:00pm on Saturday, June 4 until the time of her funeral at 10a on Monday, June 6 at the St. Regis Catholic Church. Ida was a member of the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group.

LALLI, DR. MICHAEL - Dr. Michael F. Lalli, best known as “Mike” or “Uncle Mike”, died at The Ottawa Hospital - General Campus in the early morning hours of May 31, 2016. He was 85 years old. Mike was the exceptional, loving and precious husband of Dr. Eunice R. Lee (Alexandria, Ontario). He was born in Mansfield, Ohio as the only son and the first of five children of Laudo and Jennie Lalli (née Mazza). His siblings cherished him, Miss Angela Lalli of Mansfield (deceased), Mrs. Rita Scheurer (Bob, deceased) also of Mansfield, Mrs. Claudine Eckhart (Henry) of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Janet Tackett (Robert) of Beaver, Kentucky. Twelve nieces and nephews deeply respected and admired their Uncle Mike. Before becoming an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, McGill University, in 1973, Mike served five years as an Officer in the United States Air Force as a pilot, radar observer and flight simulation instructor. At McGill, he will be remembered as a steadfast and loyal colleague, as a gentleman, as a humorist who endeared himself to many and as a person who was truly committed to the Academic and Research missions of the Department and the University. Many dentists, physicians and scientists will remember his methodical and engaging teaching of Gross Anatomy and the sincere and genuine interest he placed in them as a whole person. Mike retired in 2000, giving him time to enjoy his adopted home of Alexandria. Here, he discovered an environment fertile to grow wonderful, personal friendships and he rediscovered and applied, with pleasure, the gardening techniques he had learned and depended upon as a youth. Yet, he continued to teach Dental and Medical students part-time at McGill until the age of 84, when he was obliged to give up this responsibility to start treatments for a Non Hodgkin form of lymphoma. Thankfully, until his death, Mike remained the same gracious person he had always been. Then, and now, he would encourage all of us to continue to “Fight the Good Fight”. Mike’s life will be remembered in private family celebrations held in the United States and Canada. Interment will take place in the family plot located in the United Church Cemetery in Alexandria. For those wishing to do so, donations In Memoriam may be made to the Cedars Cancer Foundation, Montreal, Canada (www.cedars.ca ; and designated toward Cedar Cancer Centre). Condolences may be made online at www.glengarryfuneralhome.com.
