CORNWALL, Ontario – Community members dressed their holiday best and pranced around the city on Sunday, Dec. 16 during the second annual Cornwall Christmas Scavenger Hunt.

“It was awesome,” said organizer Katy Cartier. “All the teams showed up at Lowe’s (parking lot) for 5:45 p.m. and they had from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to finish 50 items on their list.”

Cartier said that the winning team arrived just before 8 p.m. Teams reconvened at Tim Horton’s in Brookdale Centre where they could enjoy a warm beverage and mingle.

Each team was required to take photos of themselves with specific holiday items and photos of themselves in specific locations around the city, like the Bandshell or beside a ‘Welcome to Cornwall’ sign. Eight teams of four or five individuals competed. An entry fee of $30 was required.

According to Cartier, the first place team won a basket of goodies from the LCBO, lottery tickets, Christmas chocolates and decorations. Prizes were also awarded for best outfits as teams were asked to dress up, and prizes were given for best team photo and best photo.

“I wanted to do this just to get the community together during the holidays…get people to meet new people,” said Cartier. “I figured there’s not a lot of stuff like this around Cornwall. It was innocent fun and spread holiday cheer.”
