CORNWALL, Ontario – Coming up on June 2 the Cornwall Indoor Riding Club RiDE is holding a fundraiser for CHEO.
The fundraiser involved stationary bike riders riding for 30 minutes.
For Kristen Riel, organizer of the event, the fundraiser is a way to give back.
Her daughter Blaire was a patient at CHEO when she was a newborn.
“My daughter had heart surgery at 3 months,” said Riel, who went on to explain that the heart defect with which her daughter was born is often fatal and she feels truly blessed and thankful for the care her daughter received at CHEO. “She is going to be four in August. It is a huge blessing, CHEO saved her life.
Riel says that the fundraiser will have eight shifts with 10 riders per shift. Currently she has already signed up 50 riders for the fundraiser. Each rider must donate a minimum of $40 to enter.
The fundraiser will be taking place at the RiDE indoor cycling studio at 412 Fifth St. E from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 2.
“We’d love to have those who want to give back,” Riel said. “Cycling strengthens the heart and blood flow so the fundraiser is a good fit.”
