CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Concert Series will continue their 30th Anniversary Season celebrations with ‘Mozart in the Afternoon,’ featuring Maestro Kerry Stratton of the Toronto Concert Orchestra, along with guest flutist Kaili Maimets and harpist Andrew Chan.
Throughout his international career, Stratton has conducted orchestras in Europe, North America and Asia. He is the 2000 winner of the Masaryk Award for his contribution to Czech and Slovak culture and was decorated by the Czech Government in 2007 at Prague’s Cernin Palace with the Gratis Agit Award.
Stratton is known for his passionate approach to music, his knowledge as well as his interactive style. Woven into movements, Stratton will read excerpts from Mozart’s letters, providing insights into his connection to the people and the music he loved.
The 30th anniversary season is dedicated to the memory of Sylvia Whitaker, a founding member of the Cornwall Concert Series who passed away in January of 2015. Through a donation from Whitaker’s estate, the Association is able to host the Toronto Concert Orchestra on Sunday, April 9, 2017. There will be a pre-concert reception starting at 1:00 pm.
Closing the season is Canadian pianist Charles Richard-Hamelin on Saturday, May 6, 2017, with a programme entitled Chopin and Romantic Composers. Silver Medalist at the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2015, Charles Richard-Hamelin is the first Canadian ever to win this distinguished award..
