Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and the River Institute are presenting “A Family Friendly Workshop about Fish Ecology” this weekend at the Saunders Hydro Dam Visitor Centre in Cornwall. Two separate workshops are available, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Registration is required.
The FREE workshops will provide an opportunity to learn about the River Institute’s scientific research through discussion and hands-on activities related to aquatic field sampling and analysis methods. Participants will also learn about local fish species, their significance, and how to identify them using key characteristics, with a focus on native and invasive species.
“We think that the best way to learn about the environment is to experience it for yourself, so we can’t wait to get everyone geared up to learn about local fish,” says Lexy Harquail, one of the River Institute’s Environmental Educators. “This workshop is for everyone: whether you know a little or a lot about fish, there’s always something new to learn.”
The weekend workshops are part of OPG’s summer programs at the Saunders Hydro Dam Visitor Centre. Please visit www.opg.com/eastern for the full list of programing and registration information.
The SHDVC is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. until Friday, September 1, 2023.
