North Stormont Township Council representatives, Mayor Dennis Fife and Councillors Lianne Acres-Hanna and Richard Neville have announced that North Stormont Council is pledging $75,000 to Cornwall Hospital Foundation’s To Your Health! Campaign. This donation is being made as a contribution to the fundraising efforts currently underway to purchase an MRI and digital urology table for Cornwall Community Hospital.

“The amount represents roughly $2.50 per tax installment per residence over three years,” said Fife. “Residents of this region have conveyed to us that they are proud to be a part of this pledge. Therefore, we know it’s the right decision.”

“We realize how beneficial an MRI will be to the population of North Stormont,” says Coun. Acres-Hanna. “Too many people travel too far and wait for too long for these life-saving diagnostic tests. It’s time we all did something to help.”

“Citizens of North Stormont have recognized the value of having this life-saving equipment so close to home,” adds Jim Brownell, honorary chair of the To Your Health! Campaign, “especially since the wait times for MRI scans in this region are the longest in the province. North Stormont has definitely stepped up to the plate and shown great leadership.”

The donation was announced during a community meeting in Avonmorewhere Dr. Garry Weinberg was the keynote speaker and explained the usage and the need for this equipment. The goal of the Campaign is to raise $3.5 million to purchase the equipment for Cornwall Community Hospital by the end of 2012.

Cornwall Hospital Foundation is a registered charity whose mission is to work in collaboration with the Cornwall Community Hospital, to enable sustainable healthcare philanthropy to support the Hospital in providing high-quality health services to the communities it serves.
