SLOAN – Alice Letitua

Passed away at the Glengarry Memorial Hospital on Sunday, November 9, 2008 formerly of Apple Hill at the age of 94 years. Beloved wife of the late Cornelius Sloan. Loving mother of Beverley Wastle (Gordon) of B.C., Gary Sloan (Helen) of Williamstown and Mervin Sloan of Apple Hill. Predeceased by three sisters, Stella Picard, Laura McKinnon and Irene Paquette and by one great-granddaughter Amanda Nicholson. Dear daughter of the late Clark Lewis and the late Carrie Whaley. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Nelson, Sonia, Sherry, Lisa, Christine, Megan, Patrick, Kimberley, Emily, Brittany and Bradley and by her great-grandchildren Bailey, Reid, Taylor, Logan, Aidan, Nolan, Kathleen, Ella and Max. Funeral took place on Wednesday, November 12 at St. Anthony’s Church, Apple Hill. Interment in parish cemetery. Passed away at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre on Sunday, November 9, 2008 formerly of Cornwall at the age of 92 years. Beloved wife of the late Harold H. Thompson. Loving mother of Wayne Thompson (Brenda) of Long Sault and Kathryn Talluri (Ricardo) of Toronto. Cherished grandmother of Bryan Thompson, Angela Webber-Waiji, Christopher Webber, Jennifer and Christopher Talluri. Dear daughter of the late Charles Nodden and the late Ada (Carr) Nodden. Funeral Friday, November 14 in the Chapel of the Glendale Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Etobicoke. Passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site on Thursday, November 6, 2008, formerly of Cornwall, at the age of 66 years. Beloved wife of Richard (Dick) Acheson. Dear mother of Brenda Gould (Eric) of Cornwall and dear stepmother of David Acheson of Brampton and Dennis Acheson (Carol) of Cornwall. Predeceased by one son David Delorme. Loving grandmother of Hillary, Farran, Evan, Mariah, Jessie, Ryan, Brandon and Caitlyn. Dear daughter of the late Patrick Shallow and the late Maria Theberge. Dear sister of Patrick Shallow (Theresa) of Martintown, Patricia Corbell (Adrien) of La Tuque, Quebec, Bertha Racine (Claire) of South Mountain and Mary Quig of Cornwall. Passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site on Thursday, November 6, 2008 formerly of Cornwall at the age of 82 years. Beloved wife of the late Leslie Roy. Loving mother of Lezley Hill, Surrey, British Columbia, Debbie MacGregor (Garry) of Long Sault and Darlene Ledoux (Chicky) of Surrey, British Columbia. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Karley Marleau (Shamus), Casey (Karen), Joseph, Teena, Debralene and Kevin, and 6 great-grandchildren Sarah, Alexander, Tressa, Ella, Aurora and Dane. Predeceased by her parents Harvey and Ida May (Young) Black. A graveside committal service will be held in Notre Dame Cemetery at a later date. Sadly missed by 6 grandchildren Jayson MacDonald, Jo-Ann DaSilva (Jacques), Scott Jarvis (Devon), Amanda Tyo, Shaun Legros, Matthew Baik and 6 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Ethan DaSilva, Kaitlyn Tyo, Sydney, Devon and Austin Legros. Passed away at Parisien Manor on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at the age of 90 years. Loving husband of 65 years, Thérèse (Lafreniere) Dubeau. Dear father of Lionel Dubeau (Gisele), Fernand Dubeau (Cindy), Laurette Dubeau all of Montreal, Ronald Dubeau (Carol) of Orléans, Michel Dubeau (Kadek) of California, Pauline Begg (Neil) of Monkland and Jacqueline Dubeau. Sadly missed by 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Survived by 4 sisters Annette Bedard, Jeannette Vaillancourt (Rene), Rhea Gauthier (Leo), Estelle Arsenault (Leo) and 3 brothers Rhéal Dubeau (Gisele), Delard Dubeau and Maurice Dubeau (Ermance). Predeceased by son Jean-Marc Dubeau, his parents Elzear and Maria (Saucier) Dubeau, brothers Aurele, Gerald, Lucien, Ernest and Emanuel and sisters Delia and Edna. LÉGER – Guy

Passed away after a courageous eight-month battle with cancer, surrounded by his family at the Ottawa Hospital on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at the age of 69 years. Mr. Léger, a city counsellor served initially from 1972 to 1974 and again for four more terms from 1981 to 1991. He was elected for a sixth term in 2006. Over the years, he served as chairman of many city committees. Most of his career was spent teaching business and computer courses at St. Lawrence College and more recently he taught at the Adult School in Snye. Mr. Léger was passionate about his francophone culture and greatly contributed to promoting bilingualism in his community. Beloved husband and best friend for 45 years to Lise Benoit-Léger (school trustee, CEPEO). Loving father of Claudine Léger (Marc Doucet) of Ottawa and Dr. Chantal-Stéfanie Léger (Dr. Robert Stenstrom) of Vancouver. Cherished grandfather of Zachary, Nadine and Emma Stenstrom, Maxime Grenier, Alexandre and Sarah Doucet. Dear son of the late Thomas Léger and the late Fabiola (Campeau) Léger. Dear brother of Robert (Jeannine) of Montreal, Gérald (Inez) and Rosaire (Heather) both of Cornwall, Father Ronald, c.s.v. of Winnipeg and Rhéal (Madeleine) of Cornwall. Predeceased by one sister, Rita George (Eddy). Dear son-in-law of the late Laurent Benoit and the late Colombe (Roy) Benoit. Dear brother-in-law of Beverley Heard. Dear uncle of Julie (Ali) and Natalie Benoit as well as many other nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his close friend, Mayor Bob Kilger, city counsellors, colleagues and friends. In his final days, Mr. Léger expressed his gratitude to the people of Cornwall for bestowing upon him the honour and privilege of serving their community. Funeral took place on Saturday, November 8 at Nativity Co-Cathedral. Funeral arrangements were under the care and direction of Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, East Branch.

BERNACKI – William

Passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site on Monday, November 3, 2008, formerly of Lancaster, at the age of 81 years. Dear friend of Doris Seeley of Cornwall. Loving father of Diane Ross of Arizona. Dear grandfather of Phillip of Arizona. Also survived by his sister Lucy Mikalajunas, of Montreal. Dear uncle of Tony Mikalajunas of Montreal, Donald Mikalajunas of Texas, Patsy Pilat and Richard Pilat both of Montreal. Passed away at Chateau Gardens Nursing Home, Lancaster on Saturday, November 1, 2008. Mr. James William Cutter, formerly of Lancaster and Bainsville, at the age of 91 years. Beloved husband of the late Mary “Emily” Elizabeth Cutter (née Guerin). Dear father of Lawrence Cutter of Williamstown, Delia Dufresne (Rolland) of Montreal, Elizabeth Cutter of Lancaster and Denis Cutter (Carl Ann) of Bainsville. Foster father to Paul of Summerstown and Fred of South Lancaster. Cherished grandfather of Kimberley Ann, Robert (Susan), Patricia (Brian), Michael (Dara) and Denis (Annie) and great-grandfather of David, Michael, Evan, Liam, Gabriella, Adrianne and Amilie. Predeceased by his parents, James Cutter and Ada Britton as well as by his sisters Ada (late Charles), Lilian (late Harry and Rose (late Alfred).
