Five daughters, along with their brother and mother, are honouring their late father’s memory and spirit by providing a magical Christmas to families less fortunate.
“Our father was a caring man,” said Diane DesRosiers Wallace, about family patriarch, Val DesRosiers, who lost his battle with lung cancer in 2004.
Since then, through their Gift of Hope charity, her family has helped 74 deserving families (with a total of 213 children) in the community enjoy a better Christmas by providing them with groceries and gifts in time for the holiday season.
“As in previous years, we are proud to say 100% of all donations are passed on to our ‘chosen families’,” said DesRosiers Wallace. “The tears and hugs we receive each year inspire us tremendously.”
The mandate of Gift of Hope, she says, is to give hope by assisting “working poor” families or families living with special circumstances. Recipients are referred to them by various local social agencies. “We deliver our “Gift of Hope” in our father’s honour.”
The DesRosiers family invites you to join them by donating in their father’s honour or perhaps in the memory of someone you have lost. All donations of groceries, money and presents are gratefully accepted. All money received will be used to purchase appropriate toys and food for each family. “With your help, we can put a smile on 30 or more little faces this Christmas morning.”
