Summerstown trails open for the season

Thanks to the 40 cm of snow that fell on our region last week, the Friends of the Summerstown Trails have opened the trails at Summerstown Forest for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Volunteers have packed and traced more that 80% of the cross-country ski trails. All of the showshoe trails are open.

These trails are located at 6150 Summerstown Rd., north of the 401 and offer 10 km for snowshoers, and 20 km for skiers (both skating and classic).

Access to the trails is free and donations are accepted in order to help Friends maintain the trails. Starting Jan. 5, it will be possible to rent snowshoew ($5) and cross-country ski packages ($10) on weekends throughout the season (weather and trail conditions permitting).

An array of instructional lessons are offered, including introductory snowshoe clinics and nordic skiing lessons for both skating and classic skiers. For more information on these lessons and for trail conditions, visit www.summerstowntrails.ca.
