CORNWALL, Ontario – Sometime over the Thanksgiving long weekend, the Cornwall workers memorial in Lamoureux Park was defaced with green and purple spray paint.

Cornwall Police Service (CPS) could not confirm at time of publication if they have any open investigation in the matter, but as of Tuesday afternoon the City of Cornwall said that it is in the process of organizing the clean-up of the monument, which they hope will be completed as soon as possible.

The workers memorial was originally erected to commemorate the deaths of 15 workers who were killed with the Limestone Railway Swing Bridge collapsed in 1898.

The Cornwall and District Labour Council holds an annual memorial at the monument every April to remember those workers who die on the job every year.
