CORNWALL, Ontario – Marina 200 saw some young, first time fishers on Saturday, Sept. 28, taking part in the 17th annual Kids, Cops and Fishing event with CPS.

“We do it for the kids, otherwise they may not get the opportunity to experience fishing,” said Organizer Det. Cst. Jamie Day. “It’s all about positive vibes today.”

With an expected turnout of around 50 fishers from 9 a.m. to noon, 38 young locals had tried their luck at a big catch about an hour into the event, despite the light rain.

Det. Cst. Day had seen the children catch some gobies, sunfish and perch.

“I think the event helps foster positive interactions with police,” said Det. Cst. Day. “They’re having a good time and we’re having a good time watching them have a good time.”

The Optimist Club of Cornwall was on site to provide food and beverages.
