CORNWALL, Ontario – For almost 50 years, Meals on Wheels has been helping Cornwall residents with a hot meal and a smile.

The goal of Meals on Wheels has been to provide nutrition, connection and support to Cornwall’s seniors to help ensure that they can live comfortably in their homes for as long as possible.

Meals on Wheels goes to around 100 customers a day from Monday to Friday.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Meals on Wheels Cornwall, is lowering their price by $5 to $32.50 a week until the end of 2020.

“The main goal is to help people stay in their homes longer,” said Andree-Anne Morin, Program Coordinator.

Morin explained that the program provides hot, nutritious meals to seniors, a segment of the population vulnerable to food insecurity.

The meals come with an entrée, soup, salad, and dessert, and in a variety of diets including diabetic, gluten free, puree or minced.

This fall, Meals on Wheels will also be introducing a new weekly frozen meal service, which will provide their clients with more variety and flexibility.

“Our friendly volunteers deliver meals five days a week,” said Morin. “Residents receive more than a meal – they also get a bright smile and kind greetings.”
